Top Story
A new Lotlinx survey of 215 franchise and independent dealership executives (published April 7) hit the industry with a reality check: only 30% of dealers say AI actually understands their inventory, just 25% believe it can diagnose why vehicles are not selling, and only 23% say it helps prioritize which units to focus on. The highest-ranked feature dealers actually want is not a chatbot. It is a "watch my store" monitoring agent that flags problems in real time.

Tool Spotlight
ID Privacy AI — Agent Execution Platform
What it does: A purpose-built infrastructure layer for dealer AI agents. Unlike wrapping ChatGPT in a dealer-branded UI, it maintains a live "context graph" of every customer's intent, inventory state, incentives, and cross-channel signals (voice, SMS, email, chat, web). Agents book appointments, handle after-hours calls, and run multi-step workflows with the graph as source of truth.
Who it is for: Franchise dealers and groups who are past the "AI chat widget" phase and want agents handling real operational volume. Three OEM certifications claimed.
Price: Not publicly listed. Enterprise dealer-AI platforms in this category typically price $1K-$5K/rooftop/month based on active rooftop count and interaction volume.

Stat of the Day
Only 30% of dealers say their AI tools actually understand their inventory. That means 7 out of 10 dealers are paying for AI that does not know what is on their lot. Let that sink in.

Trend Watch
Two things are happening at once and they are pulling in opposite directions.
First, the generic-AI bubble is popping. The Lotlinx data, the CBT coverage, and the Digital Dealer editorials are all landing on the same conclusion in April: ChatGPT-style tools are not moving the metrics that matter. Dealers are measurably frustrated.
Second, purpose-built vertical AI infrastructure is arriving in force. ID Privacy's launch, the CBT fixed-ops appointment-AI coverage, and the Spyne budget data all point to dealers shifting dollars from horizontal generic AI to vertical, dealer-specific AI that is embedded in DMS, CRM, and voice systems.
The takeaway for dealers and for us: the window to win client conversations with "we help you deploy AI that actually moves units" is wide open right now. The incumbents are getting dinged publicly for shipping generic tools. The phrase to own in every deck and every LinkedIn post this quarter is "actionable AI, not generative AI."
