CarGurus rolled out VINMax today, an AI model that scans a dealer's live inventory against real-time supply and demand data to flag which VINs need a marketing push before they age out. In CarGurus' own testing between February and July, the boosted vehicles sold faster and pulled noticeably more daily leads than comparable listings left alone.

💡 Tool Spotlight

Hammer (AI BDC) — Answers inbound leads across text, Facebook, Marketplace, webchat, and OEM lead sources, then books the appointment straight into the CRM you already run. Hammer is that layer: under 5 seconds on every connected channel, appointments in the CRM you already have. It does not replace your BDC. Your team closes.

Price: Not publicly listed — verify at hammertime.com before you buy.

Who it's for: Stores where the first text reply takes an hour instead of five seconds, or where a thin BDC desk means after-hours leads just sit.

Who it's NOT for: Anyone expecting a full voice-calling agent or a replacement for the human desk — it's not a new CRM, not a voice agent that calls the buyer, and not a reason to delete the BDC.

📊 Stat of the Day

While 82% of dealers report using AI, many have yet to align with how consumers are shopping, particularly in vehicle search, where disruption is well underway. Here's the gut-check number buried a few lines down: 69% of dealers expect AI to drive sales and revenue growth, but about one in three either aren't measuring AI's impact or have no clarity on how they're measuring — and only 22% of AI users report seeing that growth so far.

In plain terms: four out of five rooftops have flipped the AI switch. Barely one in five can point to a dollar it actually produced. That's not a tech problem — that's nobody pulling the report.

🔮 Trend Watch

Every AI story this week is a vendor bolting one more narrow feature onto a slice of the funnel — VINMax for merchandising, Hammer for first-reply, QoreAI arguing for pay-plan redesign — while Cox Automotive's own numbers say the bigger problem is that most dealers still can't connect any of it to gross. Suzuki's point about AI exposing broken workflows instead of fixing them is the thread tying it together: point solutions are multiplying faster than anyone's measurement discipline. Forward this to whoever owns your AI budget and ask them one question — which of these tools do we actually have a before-and-after on?

Reading about AI won't train your team

The stores pulling ahead aren't the ones with the most tools — they're the ones whose people know how to use them. That takes a strategy, a readiness baseline, and real training.
